Gunter Named New Cheerleading Coach at CFCC

Shannon Gunter joins the Sea Devil coaching staff as the department's new head cheerleading coach.  Coach Gunter has experience in both cheer and dance; dancing since the age of seven. Shannon has been both a competitive dancer and cheerleader, including cheering at the varsity level and with dance production companies.  She was also a member of the dance team at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

"We are excited to bring Coach Gunter's passion and enthusiasm to our department," said CFCC Director of Athletics Ryan Mantlo.  "Her energy is contagious and we look forward to the great things that will happen under her guidance."

Coach Gunter is a graduate of UNC Wilmington where she received a B. A. in Mathematics and an M.S. in Mathematics.  After graduation, she became a high school math teacher.  Her passion for cheerleading led her to coach numerous JV and Varsity cheer teams, while teaching in New Hanover and Pender counties. Currently, Coach Gunter is pursuing a Certificate in College Teaching and Learning and working toward her Doctorate in Educational Leadership in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

Shannon is a full time math instructor at Cape Fear Community College. Her passion for teaching is evident through her enthusiasm, innovative lessons, and commitment to students. Coach Gunter's mission is to support all students and provide a positive educational experience both in and out of the classroom.  In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering, reading, spending time with her family, and traveling, with her most recent international experience in Japan.

Shannon is a Wilmington native and is proud to still call Wilmington home.
