Wilmington, NC - The Cape Fear Community College men's soccer team hosted Patrick Henry Community College and Methodist University over the weekend and secured two wins for the Sea Devils.
On Saturday versus Patrick Henry CC, the Sea Devils came away with a 2-1 victory led by the stellar play of Cape Fear's Robert Sandidge. Sandidge opened the scoring in the first half with a goal in the 20th minute with a left footed strike from about 25 yards out that found the top left corner of the net.
In the second half, Patrick Henry was able to level the score after they were rewarded a penalty kick at the 73rd minute mark which switched momentum of the game as both teams now pressed for the game winning goal. In the 83rd minute, the Sea Devils were able to find that elusive second goal when Gabe Moore found Leo Martorell inside the eighteen where he tucked the ball away in the right hand corner of the net for another game winner.
On Sunday, the Sea Devils had to bounce back from the day before and face off against Methodist University. Robert Sandidge continued his recent scoring surge when he tallied the first goal 24 minutes into the contest. The first half ended with the score at 1-0.
The Sea Devils quickly started the second half as Storm Tootle found Robert Sandidge for his second goal of the game just one minute into the second half. Methodist was able to respond and get a little life when they were rewarded with a free kick at the 52nd minute mark. The Monarchs hit the resulting free kick from about 25 yards out off the top crossbar and then followed the rebound in for a goal. The score remained at 2-1 until the 89th minute when Robert Sandidge completed his hat trick. Sandidge hit a perfectly placed free kick that curled around the Monarchs wall and into the right side netting.
