Cape Fear vs Catawba Valley

Cape Fear wins 68-60

Highlights: The Cape Fear Community College Women's Basketball team continues to dominate, securing their 11th straight win with a 68-60 victory over the Catawba Valley Redhawks in Region 10 Conference play.

The Sea Devils came out of the gate strong - overwhelming the Redhawks with a commanding 29-8 lead in the first quarter. Their relentless defense and sharp offensive execution left no doubt that they were in control. However, Cape Fear's decision to rotate in players from the bench to foster team growth opened the door for Catawba Valley to find their rhythm as the first half progressed.

The Redhawks capitalized on this opportunity, rallying with a 20-point second quarter while holding Cape Fear to 12 points. With renewed energy and confidence, Catawba Valley continued to push in the second half, closing the gap and challenging the Sea Devils.

Despite the surge from the Redhawks, Cape Fear leaned on the experience and skill of their starting lineup and a few clutch substitutions. They weathered the comeback attempt, holding their ground in the final minutes to secure an 8-point victory.

De'Mya Phifer led the charge for the Sea Devils, delivering a standout performance with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Her leadership on the court helped keep Cape Fear steady in the face of adversity.

"It wasn't the prettiest win, but we look forward to building on these areas of improvement going into 2025," says Head Coach Taylor Todd-Williams. "We worked hard to force many turnovers defensively, but we're still tightening up loose ends to build confidence across all of our players when it comes to finishing at our basket."
