In Short: Cape Fear Women's Soccer defeats local rival Wake Tech on their home pitch - notching another Region 10 Conference win.
Highlights:
The Sea Devils were able to solidify their presence at the top of the Division II Region 10 Conference as they beat out the Wake Tech Eagles on Wednesday afternoon. After a week of road matchups, Cape Fear was excited to return home to North Campus Soccer Field to take on the Raleigh-native Eagles team.
Both teams struggled to find their rhythm at match start, but played competitive defense throughout the first half. Cape Fear continued to push the tempo, but were missing some key connecting pieces to string together passes on the attacking side of the ball.
Defensively, Cape Fear held Wake Tech to only one shot on goal throughout the entire match. Freshmen Ashley Bowling and Alissa Campano were poised in the backfield and limited most of the Eagles' opportunities through their hustle and strength.
Entering the second half of the match, the Sea Devils managed to fall in-sync with goals from Alyssa Wright, Maya McDonald, and Halie Blizzard. Blizzard's offensive creativity and consistent defensive pressure in the midfield was a key component to the Sea Devils locking in the win on Wednesday afternoon.
"Resiliency and teamwork was the name of the game today," remarks Head Women's Soccer Coach C.W. Ponton. "They continued to trust each other and it led to multiple goals in the second half."
Up Next: Cape Fear Women's Soccer will take a short break before returning home to take on the Lenoir Community College Lancers on Saturday, October 8th at 4PM.
