In Short: Cape Fear Volleyball finished the SMC Tournament with a 2-1 record in their last competition before back-to-back conference play.
Highlights:
The Sea Devils traveled to Spartanburg Methodist College in Spartanburg, SC this weekend to compete against opponents from across the South East. The Sea Devils have thrived in non-conference play and have been excited to build their confidence against a wide variety of opponents as they approach Region 10 Conference play this coming week.
Cape Fear started off strong against Walters State - winning the set 25-15. The following two sets were incredibly competitive as the Senators rallied to win the second set 26-28 and keep things close as Cape Fear scraped by with a 25-22 win in the third.
Charly Meade, Kara Walker, and Nora Pitt earned 8 kills each for the Sea Devils, but were unable to solidify their offensive presence to pull out a win. Leah Davis put in the work to earn 23 digs and keep the Sea Devils in the match for as long as they could.
The Sea Devils bounced back the following day against USC Union with a quick sweep to start the morning. London Ipsen was a clear offensive leader with 11 kills while Hannah McDowell supported her teammates with 22 assists and 4 aces. While Cape Fear let off the gas momentarily in the second set, they were still able to finish the match strong with a sweep.
Cape Fear finished off the weekend with another clean sweep against Denmark Tech. The Sea Devils earned 27 aces across the board and the entire team played a role in finishing the SMC Tournament on a high note.
"Happy to finish off the weekend with 2 wins and we're excited to get started this Tuesday with Region 10 Conference play," says Head Volleyball coach Colby Rosser.
Next Up: The Sea Devils will return to the Schwartz Center to take on Region 10 opponent Lenoir CC at 6 PM on Tuesday, September 6th.
