BREAKING - Cape Fear Community College's beloved mascot "Ray" the Sea Devil is reported to have injured one of his own Sea Devil teammates last night - Abby "Lil Stevie" Morse - at Wrightsville Beach while preparing the team for today's matchup agaist conference opponent Fayetteville Tech.

The report came late yesterday evening when Abby was taken to receive medical care. According to eye witnesses, Ray was assisting a group of Volleyball student-athletes with their footwork as they utilized the ocean waves for strength training. Mr. Sea Devil was reportedly attempting to fix the blocking stance for Ms. Morse when a wave crashed against them both. Abby unfortunately colided with Ray as his stinger and tail accidentally pierced through her foot. Eye witnesses on the scene are said to have shut down the training session and escorted Abby Morse to receive medical care. Ray gave his best efforts to be present with Abby after the accident, though the medical aids could not provide salt water for Ray to breate for longer than a few minutes.

Ray is reported to only have suffered minor injuries - according to our oceanographers. Ray is not sharing any comments on the incident at this time.

"It's a shame when injuries come up in training," says Head Volleyball coach Colby "Have You Seen This TikTok" Rosser. "Here at Cape Fear we strive to push each other in drills and improve every day. Ray and Abby are both valued members of our squad and we look forward to having them both back in practice soon."

"Ray will be taking a short leave of absence as we ensure the safety of our student-athletes and coaching staff," says Athletic Director Ryan Mantlo in an official statement to the public this morning.
