Wilmington, NC - For the Fall 2012 semester, 116 student-athletes at Cape Fear Community College earned an impressive 2.7 cumulative grade point average (GPA), while 47 (41%) earned a 3.0 grade point average or better. In addition, two programs earned team GPAs of 3.0 or higher, recognizing them as an NJCAA All-Academic Team.
"Our primary goal here at CFCC is to educate and promote academic success - and we are committed to building an athletic program that excels in academics," said Robert McGee, Director of Athletics. "This Fall, our student-athletes have bought into the academic program once again, and have achieved marks that any athletic program would be proud of.”
More impressive, with the Sea Devils facing NJCAA’s structured compliance and eligibility requirements for mid-year competition, every CFCC student-athlete on the eligibility roster was academically eligible for collegiate competition this coming Spring.
"Our student-athletes ability to balance academics and athletics is impressive, and we look to improve on those marks," stated McGee. "I commend our student-athletes, and thank the CFCC Faculty for promoting academic excellence in the classroom while providing our students with the support and encouragement they so deserve – it’s a team effort.”
For the sixth straight year, and after tracking the 11th consecutive semesters of grade point averages amongst the college transfer student body, the CFCC student-athletes earned higher GPA’s each semester than their counterparts.
