WILMINGTON | The rivalry between Cape Fear Community College (14-15 overall, 5-8 Region 10) and Brunswick Community College (14-15, 4-9) never disappoints. "I think it's a fun game for the boys. I think it gives them an extra oomph of energy before the game," CFCC head coach Ryan Mantlo said pre-game. With Brunswick Community College winning the first matchup earlier this season, this was the redemption game that the Sea Devils were craving. The Sea Devils satisfied their craving with a win vs. Brunswick Community College Wednesday night, 60-56.

In the first half both teams struggled to get things rolling. With Rakeem Wilson sidelined due to a hand injury, sophomore guard Emmanuel Andrews stepped up at the point guard position involving the entire Sea Devils team displaying unselfish ball movement. On the receiving side of Andrews passes was freshman forward Faronte Drakeford scoring a team high 12 points giving the Sea Devils a much needed presence down low. The Sea Devils trailed the majority of the first half but once they gained the lead they never looked back.

At the start of the second half, the Sea Devils had a look in their eyes that made you feel like no team could stop them. The Dolphins switched to a full court trap defense that caused the Sea Devils to turn the ball over numerous times. The game was back and forth throughout, but with eleven minutes to go the score was 46-32 giving the Sea Devils a comfortable lead with little time remaining.

However, the Dolphins were not done yet making a huge run in the latter part of the second half bringing the score to 59-56 with one minute to go. The Sea Devils had to dig deep and hold on to the lead. With about 16 seconds on the clock, the Dolphins inbounded the ball and put up a three point shot from the corner attempting to tie the game. As the ball left the shooter's hand, Emmanuel Andrews leaped and made one of the biggest blocks of his career. The blocked shot sealed the win for the Sea Devils over Brunswick Community College.

"We still understand that we have a lot of room to improve, but it's always nice getting on this win streak late" CFCC head coach Ryan Mantlo said.

If you want to catch your Cape Fear Community College Sea Devils in action, they will be away vs. Denmark Technical Friday March 2nd. The game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
