Lady Sea Devils Soccer Wins Home Openers

Wilmington, NC – The Cape Fear Community College Women's Soccer Team opened the 2012 NJCAA season with two wins this past Saturday and Sunday at the North Campus Soccer Field.  Saturday, CFCC defeated District rival Anne Arundel CC (Md.) 5-1.  Freshman Forward Jodi Barber (White Oak HS) opened the scoring in the 8th minute with a goal off an assist from Sierra Davis (White Oak HS).  Four minutes later, Haley Laurie (Adrey Kell HS) added a goal of her own with an assist from Barber.  Barber then added two more goals ('30 and '40) and Jamie Berti added the fifth and last goal of the day for the Sea Devils, just before the half-time whistle in the 41st minute.  The Lady Sea Devils surrendered a goal late in the game off an indirect free kick, just out of the reach of Goalkeeper Samantha Walker (Jay M Robinson HS).  Kerinn Hall (Jacksonville HS) and Walker shared time in goal for Cape Fear, and registered 4 saves in 5 shots while the Sea Devils totaled 23 shots of their own on the day.

Winning ways continued on Sunday as the team defeated the College of Southern Maryland 8 to 1.  Barber continued her scoring ways as she netted the first three goals for the Lady Sea Devils.  Tthe first two in the 13th and 20th minute, and the third as the second half started, in the 48th minute.  Barber's goals came off assists by Anna Mixon (Croatan HS), Sierra Davis, and Amanda Fenton (White Oak HS).  Scoring continued when Freshman Midfielder, Alex Duty (Cuthbertson HS), converted on a penalty kick in the 58th minute.  Tanay Ellis (Fayetteville Christian) added two goals of her own in the 66th and 76th minute.  Lauren Smith (Rocky Mount HS) and Mixon finished out the scoring in the 77th and 86th minute.  Goalkeepers Hall and Walker protected the nets again for Cape Fear and recorded 2 saves from Southern Maryland 3 shots, but gave up a goal in the 75th minute.  Cape Fear totaled 22 shots on the day for their second win of the season. 

The Lady Sea Devils are back in action as they host Region 10 rival Spartanburg Methodist College on Saturday, September 1st at the North Campus Soccer Field.  Kick-off is set for 2:00 pm.
