Wilmington, NC - Cape Fear Community College was heartbroken to learn about the passing of Tyrek Coger, a May 2016 graduate and star forward for the CFCC Sea Devils Men's Basketball team. Tyrek recently moved to Oklahoma to continue his basketball career with Oklahoma State University. Our thoughts and prayers are with Tyrek's family and teammates. A dedicated student as well as an outstanding athlete, Tyrek made a lasting impression at CFCC with his athletic skills, enthusiasm, and outgoing personality.

"Ty brightened everyone's day," said CFCC Men's Basketball Head Coach and Athletics Director Ryan Mantlo. "He had such great potential and natural talent, and he worked very hard for everything he accomplished. He was so excited to play for the OSU Cowboys and to play against his brother this fall at the Maui Invitational."

"The CFCC family sends their love and support to Ty's family and friends. I had the honor of watching him play for our team, and it was obvious he had a tremendous love for the game, and for his fellow Sea Devils," said Dr. Amanda Lee, CFCC President.
