Petersburg, VA - Cape Fear men's basketball lost a close game to #14 ranked (Div. II poll) Richard Bland College, 78-72.
Trae Bryant lead the Sea Devils with 20 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Jacque Brown scored 13 points to go with four assists, and four rebounds, while Alston Davis finished with 12 points, and eight rebounds.
The Sea Devils trailed by two at halftime, but struggled to knock down shots, making just 8-24 from the field in the first half. They shot much better in the second half, making 56.5 percent of their shots, but turnovers hurt them throughout the game. They committed 21 turnovers in the game, and Richard Bland was able to score 26 points off of them as a result.
That said, the game was close throughout, but a 3-pointer by Richard Bland with just over a minute remaining would shift momentum in their favor.
Afterwards, head coach Ryan Mantlo reflected on the game, and what his team needs to do moving forward. "We have to find some toughness if we are going to be a very good team. Right now we are front runners and that has to change in a hurry! We will take this break to do some soul searching and figure out what kind of legacy we are ultimately going to leave."
Cape Fear moves to 4-2 on the season. Their next game is scheduled for Friday, December 2nd, where they will take on Fayetteville Tech Community College at home. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
