Allendale, SC -- "This was a huge win for us. It's always tough to play on the road," commented Cape Fear Community College men's soccer coach Chris Libert after his team's 3-1 victory over USC Salkehatchie on Wednesday afternoon.
"We needed this game to remain in second place in the conference," he continued, noting his squad's 7-2-3 conference record. The Sea Devils' overall mark was raised to 11-4-3.
The Cape Fear coach looked ahead, emphasizing his team's two more regular-season contests prior to the conference tournament.
Emmett Lunceford propelled the Sea Devils to a one-goal advantage at the 17-minute mark by scoring on a penalty kick. Seven minutes later on an assist by Lunceford, Derek Yates tallied at the 24-minute mark to give the Sea Devils a 2-0 advantage. Taking a pass from Sergio Esparrago, Gabe Moore scored at the 25-minute mark for Cape Fear's final tally.
Cape Fear dominated the contest with 13 shots on goal while USC Salkehatchie had only three. Goalie Dakota Moore only tendered two saves on an uneventful night.
