Wilmington, NC (12/1/12) – Cape Fear's women's basketball team snapped back from a two-game losing streak to overtake Rockingham Community College on Saturday by a score of 73-39. Sea Devil head coach Lori Drake attributes the solid victory to an all-around team effort, "We had five players step up today by scoring double figures. It felt great getting back on the court after the long holiday break." Drake went on to commend her team for their efforts as a single unit by saying, " We are getting better daily and striving, shoulder to shoulder, to become the most successful team possible."
The Sea Devils' tenacious defense produced 22 steals and forced 29 turnovers. Texas native, Alexis Adams had nine of those steals, while Porsha Buchanan and Shanta Williams contributed with five each. Alex Washington pitched in with three steals, three assists, and seven rebounds. On the offensive end, five Sea Devils scored in the double digits. Alexis Redd led the way with 16, Porsha Buchanan, Shelby Morris, and Ashley Altman had 11 apiece, and Shanta Williams had 10 points.
The lady Sea Devils will be on the road next week in Raleigh, NC for a re-match with Wake Technical Community College. Cape Fear narrowly escaped a 49-45 victory earlier in the season against Wake. "We play Wake Tech next, so our focus is now turned toward another conference win on the road," Coach Drake added.
