Wilmington, NC - No. 15 Cape Fear Community College added two scores in the second half to build off its one goal lead as the Sea Devils picked up a 5-2 result over No. 20 Spartanburg Methodist on Thursday afternoon.
"It was a great way to start off conference play with a solid win against an undefeated opponent," said Cape Fear Coach Melissa Anderson. "It's always a good thing when you have multiple players involved in the scoring effort."
"Being ranked 15th in the country in this week's Top-20 poll only helps to encourage the players and validate their efforts and hard work."
Five different Lady Sea Devils found the back of the net as Vivian Fernandez tallied and picked up two assists. Nikki Tiller added a goal and assist, while Karlie Yeoman opened the scoring for Cape Fear off a pass from Megan Fouty. Alex Strickland added to the cushion after the break along with Larissa Bonilla.
The Sea Devils have scored at least four goals in three games played this season and moved to 1-0 in conference play. Cape Fear (1-0, 3-0) travels to Martinsville, Va. for a date with Patrick Henry CC on Sunday, Sept. 14.
