WILMINGTON, NC - Coming off a (11-7) record and a regular season Region 10 Conference Championship, the 2016-2017 Sea Devils Women's Soccer team open their 2016-2017 season with a match-up against Frederick Community College in Day 1 at the CFCC Port City Classic.

"It is early to say, but based on our preseason actions, we are not the same team as we were in 2015.   Our team has a different attitude.  We have a solid returning group, and a hungry group of freshmen," said Ryan Deppa, Sea Devils women's soccer head coach.

The Sea Devils return 9 players from last year's squad, and welcomes 13 freshmen to this year's team. The team also welcomes Chris Murray, a former collegiate and professional soccer player to the staff as the team's Volunteer Assistant Coach.  

Kick-off for tomorrow's match is scheduled for 2:30pm (EST) at Legion Stadium.

LAST TIME VERSUS FREDERICK CC
Frederick Community College's Caitlyn Ray scored the lone goal in the 88^th minute that gave the Cougars a 1-0 victory over Cape Fear Community College.

"Last year they were very patient, and well coached.  Fredrick worked hard, and even though this is a new season, we would expect the same," said head coach Ryan Deppa.

Note: Following that loss, Cape Fear would go on to finish (6-3) in their last nine games; outscored their opponents 31-9 in goals scored in those nine games.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS
Sophomore MF Victoria Doing
-          Led the team in goals scored (5), assists (5), and total points (15) last season
-          Started and appeared in all the team's 14 games

Freshman  GK Kayla Worrell
-          Posted a 1.07 Goals Against Average last year during her senior year of high school
-          Appeared in 15 games her senior season

 
SEA DEVILS' TO WATCH
Sophomore F  Alyssa Coustenis
-       Led the team in goals scored (18), total points (42), and shots on goal (13) last season; finished second on the team in assists (6)
-       Selected to 2015 NSCAA Junior College Division I Women's All-South Region Team

Sophomore MF Raime Cooper
-       Started and appeared in 17 matches last season
-       Recorded 4 goals and 3 assists, finished with 11 points on the season

Freshman Janessa Annis
-       Was named to the New York All-State Team while she attended Frewsburg High School
