Cape Fear Community College women's soccer faced a challenging test on Saturday, falling 7–1 to Eastern Florida State College in Lancaster, SC.
Eastern Florida came out strong, scoring four goals in the first half and three more early in the second half. Despite multiple defensive adjustments, the Sea Devils were unable to contain the potent Eastern Florida attack. Cape Fear managed to find the back of the net late in the match when freshman Ava Walker scored off an assist from freshman Chloe Bowles.
Freshman goalkeeper Lily Richards split time in goal with Jaime Maguire, combining for six saves, while Avery LaBrecque was highlighted for outstanding defensive play throughout the match.
"A disappointing result, but a good lesson learned. We need to tighten up in practice and come more prepared mentally for good teams. Now we bounce back from this and get ready for more Region play," said Head Coach Ponton.
Cape Fear's record moves to 2–3 on the season as they look ahead to their next Region 10 match.
