Wilmington, NC - Trailing by two with 18 seconds to go in the game, Coach Lori Drake called a timeout and her Lady Sea Devils executed the play to perfection to knot the game at 87, but a last second buzzer beater lifted Wake Tech to an 89-87 win at the Schwartz Center on Wednesday night.
"It was another tough loss tonight," said Drake. "We put ourselves in a position to force the game into overtime, but you have to give them credit. Getting beat is just a tough way to lose a game."
Four Cape Fear players scored in double-figures, led by Porsha Buchanan, who finished with a team-high 23 points. Eboni Gilliam recorded a double-double (12 points and 16 rebounds), while Shakerya Morrison and Kristina Rumplasch combined for 33 points.
The Sea Devils (4-7, 12-7) have now lost four straight and look to end the skid this weekend with back-to-back games against Tidewater CC (Saturday, Feb. 8) and Sunday, Feb. 9 at Louisburg.
