Dodson, NC - Down 2-0, Cape Fear volleyball won three straight sets to defeat Surry Community College, 3-2.
Surry edged the Sea Devils in the first two sets by scores of 23-25 and 22-25. Cape Fear then took the third set 25-20, and with momentum in hand, won the fourth 25-15. The final set was close, but Cape Fear managed to hang on and win 15-11.
Heading into tonight's match undefeated, head coach Emily Coleman changed the lineup hoping to get more offense, but as she said afterwards, it didn't quite go according to plan.
"We tried out a new lineup to hopefully get more offense and it wasn't clicking, so I switched back to our original and we pulled it together."
Sophomore Ali Jenkins led the team with 42 assists, 10 digs, and six kills, while sophomore Jennifer Shirley finished with 13 kills and 10 digs. Freshmen Shilah Haumann stepped up as well, with 13 kills and sohomore Karly Mathias finished with 23 digs.
Friday night's win once again showed the resolve of the Sea Devils, who have come from behind in multiple matches to remain undefeated.
"This team never gives up, and I can't say it enough," said coach Coleman.
