Hickory, NC - Cape Fear volleyball lost two tough matches on Saturday, losing 3-0 to both Wallace State Community College and Lansing Community College.
The Sea Devils entered Saturday after going 1-1 during Friday's matches, losing in the early afternoon to Owens Community College, the top ranked team in Division II. They followed up with a 3-0 win over Northern Virginia Community College.
Their first matchup on Saturday came against Wallace State. They found it difficult to find a rhythm, losing 25-16, 25-11, and 25-18.
Middle blocker Shilah Haumann finished with five kills, while defensive specialist Karly Mathias had 14 digs.
Later that afternoon, they faced Lansing Community College. The match was much closer, but they lost the sets 25-23, 28-26, and 25-22.
Middle blocker Taylor Gainey finished with 13 kills, while setter Ali Jenkins led with 40 assists.
"This was a great weekend but a tough weekend," said head coach Emily Coleman. "We put ourselves in tough situations that we never should've been in. We also needed to maintain a lead."
The two losses today drop Cape Fear to 15-3 on the season. They return home to play Wake Tech Community College on Friday, October 13th.
