McGee to serve as CFCC's new Dean of Student Affairs; Mantlo becomes Athletic Director

WILMINGTON - Cape Fear Community College is pleased to announce that athletic director Robert McGee has been selected to serve as CFCC's first dean of student affairs, and men's basketball coach Ryan Mantlo will now be the college's athletic director.

For the past 15 years, McGee has helped develop CFCC's athletic program, which has become a nationally recognized member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) with numerous regional championships and other accolades.

In his new role, McGee will be responsible for interpreting, explaining and implementing policies and procedures related to student conduct and maintaining compliance with state and federal law. He will also maintain and enforce the College’s Code of Conduct.

McGee stated that while he will miss daily interaction with student athletes and coaching staff, he plans to use his experience as a coach and his education in counseling to serve the entire student body in a much greater capacity.

“I’m extremely pleased with this new opportunity to provide our students with guidance and support to help them take full advantage of their CFCC experience,” said McGee.

McGee attended East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C., where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master’s in Counseling Psychology. McGee holds the distinction of National Board Certified Counselor (NBCC) and is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).

“Coach Mantlo is an excellent choice to represent all of CFCC’s athletic teams,” added McGee. “He’s not only a great coach, but he also understands the needs of the players as students first.”

In addition to leading all of CFCC's athletic programs, Mantlo will also continue to serve as the head coach of CFCC's men's basketball team. Now in his tenth year at CFCC, Mantlo says his goal will be to challenge and support CFCC's student players in the classroom and on the field.

"Our goal is to challenge student-athletes both academically and athletically so that they may be successful in their future endeavors. With a program based on integrity, excellence and scholarship, the athletic department is committed to providing our student-athletes with the best college experience in the nation," Mantlo said.
