Spartanburg, SC - Cape Fear Community College continued its unbeaten run through Region 10 play as the Sea Devils blanked Spartanburg Methodist 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
"It was a big time win for us on the road," said CFCC Coach Ryan Deppa. "Spartanburg was much improved from our first meeting and really proud of our team in how they handled the game."
Alyssa Coustenis added to her goal total for the year with two scores, while Jenna Pecorini picked up an assist. Coustenis found the back of the net after Cape Fear earned a penalty kick 18 minutes into the second half to get the Sea Devils on the board. She also notched from the right side of the 18 yard line after taking a pass from Pecorini late in the match. Coustenis now has a team-high 13 goals on the season.
"Katie [Causey] continues to be a key figure in our midfield and her drive to compete to win games continues to shine through game in and game out," Deppa added.
Vivian Fernandez, Nowell Ray, Raime Cooper and Amanda Dourty kept the Spartanburg attack at bay with a strong effort protecting the back line. The clean sheet by Emily Valiente was the third shutout of the season for Cape Fear as Valiente made seven saves in net.
With a 7-0 mark in league play, The Sea Devils remain atop the division standings. Cape Fear improved to 7-4 on the year and travel to Axton, Virginia for a date with Patrick Henry Community College on Thursday, Oct. 15.
