In Short: The Sea Devils won their first conference matchup of the season against the Wake Tech Eagles.

Highlights:

Cape Fear Men's Soccer traveled to Raleigh, NC to take on their first Region 10 conference opponent of the season - the Wake Tech Eagles. Wake Tech and CFCC have a record of competitive matchups in the past, so the team was excited to take on a competitive opponent not too far from home.

The Sea Devils started off the match strong by keeping majority possession throughout the first quarter of the match. Many of Cape Fear's midfielders and attackers contributed to strong offensive plays on goal. Freshman Cuauthy Espinoza fired one in within the first 5 minutes of play to put the Sea Devils on the board early.

While the Eagles played a physical and strong defensive game, the Sea Devils continued to push the pace and make solid attacking runs to put Wake Tech on their heels. The Sea Devils scored their second goal with the help of Marcello Afonso -  assisted by Joseph Masaid to further Cape Fear's lead going into halftime.

The Sea Devils let up in transition for a moment in the second half which lead to Wake Tech's lone goal to keep the Eagles in it. But Cape Fear made quick corrections and continued to push the pace offensively. Sophomore and captain Caleb Woodard earns another goal for the Sea Devils with the help of Freshman Alex Medina.

"We took care of business today to get a conference win against a team who gave us trouble last year," remarks Head Men's Soccer coach Dave Martin. "Everyone had a piece of this one today. I'm proud to say we have a team who likes playing together."

Next Up: The Sea Devils will host the Louisburg Hurricanes for their second conference game of the season on Friday, September 16th at 2PM at North Campus Soccer Field.
