In Short: The Sea Devils battled in a tight matchup against the Louisburg Hurricanes, but finished in a 2-1 deficit.

Highlights:

Cape Fear Men's Soccer last faced the Louisburg College Hurricanes on North Campus Soccer Field in mid September - where both teams finished the match in a 1-1 tie after two overtime periods. The Sea Devils boarded the bus with a new wave of energy among them as they were excited to revisit the well-matched Hurricanes on their home turf.

Unfortunately for the Sea Devils, their nerves got the best of them as they started the match on their back foot. In the first half, the Sea Devils conceded most of the possession to the Hurricanes. While Cape Fear was able to regain momentum in their favor towards the end of the half, they were unable to finish any scoring opportunities. The Hurricanes ended the first half with a 2-0 lead over the Sea Devils.

But the Sea Devils would not go down without a fight. High energy from the bench came onto the pitch as a force to be reckoned with and successfully made a shift in overall possession and tempo in favor of Cape Fear. Throughout the half, the Sea Devils continued to open up scoring opportunities and eventually their hard work paid off with Freshman Isaac Puente-Castro putting one away off of a fast break coming from Cuauthy Espinoza. Cape Fear kept fighting for every possession as they attempted to close the 2-1 gap.

Though the difference in performance between the two halves was like night and day for the Sea Devils, the deficit was too deep to recover from as they battled until the very end.

"The boys have struggled with their mentality after going down in games this season, but we're learning how to stop the bleeding and get on our front foot in a positive way," remarks Assistant Coach Hunter Daugtridge.

Up Next: The Sea Devils will travel to South Prince George, VA to take on Division I Region 10 opponent the Richard Bland Statesmen on Monday, October 17th at 3PM.
