Mens Soccer Finishes Off Eagles

CFCC Men's Soccer teammates congradulate Alex Flores after a scored goal

In Short: Cape Fear Men's Soccer finishes off Wake Tech in their final regular season conference matchup of the year.

Highlights:

Sea Devils Men's Soccer celebrated Sophomore Day at North Campus Soccer Field prior to their matchup against the Wake Tech Eagles. The Eagles and the Sea Devils last faced each other in Raleigh, NC where Cape Fear finished the match with a 3-1 win.

Cape Fear hit the ground running early with high energy and consistent momentum. The first goal of the match came from Freshman Alex Medina under 21:00. The front line pushed to make strong attacking runs while the back line held firm and organized. "Our two Center Backs Isaac Johnson and Caleb Woodard stayed connected and had their best game this year in tandem."

Moving into the second half, Freshman Benny Hernandez-Pacheco places one in from outside of the box to solidify the Sea Devils' lead. In the backfield, Matthew Baker was rock solid in the goal and kept the Eagles Honest. Towards the end of the half, the Sea Devils gave up a PK to unfortunately give the Eagles some momentum on the attack. But Cape Fear stood their ground and finished the match with a 2-1 win on Sophomore Day.

"We were able to control the midfield and get our fullbacks up the pitch into the attack - and our combinations with movement off the ball resulted in 2 great goals," says Head Coach Dave Martin. "Great job from our Freshman Benny and Alex."

Up Next: The Sea Devils will await Region 10 Conference seeding that will determine their course of tournament play next week.
