Cape Fear vs Louisburg

Louisburg wins 5-2

Highlights: Cape Fear Men's Soccer faced a tough 5-2 loss against Louisburg despite a strong effort on both sides of the ball. Louisburg opened scoring in the 35th minute with a long-range shot, and a small deflection made it difficult for Cape Fear's keeper to react. Freshman Cuitlahuac Gonzale brought the game level just before halftime, tapping in a short cross from sophomore Chance Davis in the 44th minute.

Cape Fear came out pressing in the second half, with sophomore Jack Watkins nearly giving his team the lead by striking the post from 18 yards out. Louisburg capitalized on their counterattack with a 1v1 breakaway goal in the 58th minute, putting them ahead once again. Tanner Small equalized from the penalty spot in the 75th minute after Harold Macias was brought down in the box.

Unfortunately for Cape Fear, two own goals in quick succession (76th and 78th minute) shifted momentum back to Louisburg. Their final goal, a stunning 22-yard strike, sealed the game in the 85th minute. Cape Fear had 12 shots on goal compared to Louisburg's 9, but the Sea Devils look forward to tightening things up in their defensive end for their next matchup.

"Having 2 matches in 3 days is hard on anyone, but we have to take it on the chin and move on," says Head Coach Giovanni Vlahos. "We are looking forward to getting everyone healthy and finishing strong in Region 10 play."
