Mens Basketball Defeats Denmark

In Short: Cape Fear Men's Basketball defeats Denmark Tech and moves up to #5 in the Region 10 Conference rankings.

Highlights:

Cape Fear faced off against the Denmark Tech Panthers yesterday afternoon as the Sea Devils celebrated Military Appreciation Day (presented by the NC Army National Guard) - welcoming local veterans and their families to enjoy free admission with a complimentary reception in the Team Room. Cape Fear also recognized a current CFCC Student Veteran for her service and presented them with an autographed team ball at halftime.

The Sea Devils started off strong, controlling the tempo and making strong cuts for each other across the floor. Dillon Harrison made a few clutch 3's early on to put the Sea Devils ahead. Khalil Marshall returned with the same defensive tenacity he exhibited the night prior against the Caldwell Cobras as he forced some solid turnovers from the Panthers throughout the half.

Cape Fear continued to progress offensively, but struggled on defense as the Panthers made strong drives in the paint to even out the score. Denmark Tech was strategic in their 3-point shooting and drew some easy fouls against the Sea Devils to put them on the foul line.

The score stayed fairly even throughout the beginning of the second half - going tit-for-tat with fast breaks and strong drives for 2. After a few strong offensive drives from Daniel Ransom and a momentum-breaking steal from Jalen Joiner, the Sea Devils regained control of the game and maintained solid possession through the final minutes of play. The Panthers continued to fight back, but ultimately fell to the Sea Devils 90-81 in the Schwartz Center.

"That was a tough team to play with back-to-back games this weekend, but we found a way to win," remarks Head Coach Mark Lane. "Big shoutout to Antoine Piper who came in the Second Half with a ton of energy - hitting free throws and did a great job defensively."
