Mens Basketball Banishes Brunswick

In Short: Cape Fear Men's Basketball is on the upswing in Region 10 Conference play as they defeat the Brunswick Dolphins in a close matchup on Wednesday night.

Highlights:

Things are looking up for the Sea Devils as they finally find their rhythm and chemistry on the court - leading them to win their last 5 conference matchups in a row and bringing them to #4 in the Region 10 Conference standings.

Cape Fear's mission throughout this game seemed to be matching the athleticism of the Dolphins by running the ball in transition and creating outstanding offensive opportunities for each other on the move. Freshman standout Korey Richardson once again took control in the paint and made some powerful drives through the Dolphins' defensive formations - finishing the game with a team-high of 21 points.

Sophomore Jalen Joiner was also an active contributor last night with 11 points and a number of steals and unselfish big plays. Freshman Khalil Marshall continues to be a defensive force to be reckoned with for the Sea Devils as he kept the Dolphins at bay throughout the first half.

Cape Fear continued to push the pace into the second half, but the Dolphins were highly skilled and calculated in both their drives and 3-point shot selection. Both teams stayed neck-and-neck for most of the half, but a few big plays involving Sophomore captain Daniel Ransom helped solidify their win over the Dolphins.

"We stuck to the game plan again, and I think that's vital at this time of the season," says Head Coach Mark Lane. "We took too many gambles that allowed them to get back into the game, but defensively we executed and made our free throws. We'll be tightening things up because things won't get any easier for Saturday."

Up Next: Cape Fear Men's Basketball will celebrate Black History Month and Sophomore Day on Saturday, February 25th at 3PM (immediately following the Women's game at 1PM) against Spartanburg Methodist.
