Women's Soccer Defeats USC Salkehatchie

Wilmington, NC - Cape Fear women's soccer defeated USC Salkehatchie on Saturday by a score of 6-0 in the first game of the Port City Classic.

Carly Higgins scored a first half hat-trick, scoring in the 13th, 35th, and 43rd minutes. She was assisted by Trinity Davis, Sally Yamada, and Kaitlin Plienis.

Three different Sea Devils doubled the team's lead in the second half. Karina Carbajal scored off a free kick in the 55th minute, while Madison Bolen scored in the 65th off an assist from Plienis. Carson Hood capped off the game for Cape Fear with a 81st minute goal. She was assisted by Kaila Acuna.

With today's hat-trick, Higgins has totaled five goals on the season. Plienis' one goal moved her into a tie for second most with three, tied with Dani Donovan, and Davis.

"The team worked hard for each other on and off the ball," said head coach Ryan Deppa. "They are coming together, and that is due to all the hard work they keep putting in for their teammates."

The Sea Devils now stand at 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in conference.

Their next game is scheduled for Sunday, September 9th, where they will take on Oxford College of Emory University. The game will be played at Cape Fear Academy in Wilmington, NC at 10:15am.
