Wilmington, NC - The Lady Sea Devils moved their record to 5-0 Friday night as they defeated Guilford Tech in straight sets. Cape Fear hit .218 for the contest while holding GTCC to -.704. Freshman Molly Tatum led the Sea Devils with 12 kills, while sophomores Heidi Milliken and Taylor Simpson anchored the defense.
The Lady Sea Devils began the season in prime fashion as they took to the road for the UNC Pembroke tournament. CFCC hit .312 as a team for the tournament. Freshman Molly Tatum recorded two games with a hitting percentage over .700. Freshman Megan Thomas recorded 24 and 30 assists against Baltimore City Community College and Spartanburg Methodist respectively. Sophomore Taylor Simpson put on a serving clinic against Saint Andrews, recording 9 aces in the victory. Freshmen Molly Tatum and Brittani Jefferson both received all-tournament team honors.
"Overall, we had a great start to the season. We have been tested, and proved that we can fight back when being down," said Sea Devil Head Coach Emily Coleman. CFCC will hit the road once again as they battle conference foe Louisburg College this Saturday, September 14th. Game time is slated for 2:00 pm in Louisburg, NC.
