Sea Devils Sweep Weekend

Sea Devils Sweep Weekend

Supply, NC - The Lady Sea Devils faced a tough blocking Surry team on Saturday. "They are a huge blocking team. It seemed like they got touches on everything, which is what we expected, said Coach Emily Coleman. We worked a tremendous amount on our coverage this week in practice to prepare."

The Sea Devils got down 0-1 in the first set committing errors, but rallied back to take the next two with the help from Julie Kemp coming off the bench. Kemp finished the match with 11 kills. "Even though Julie has not seen has much action this season, she came off of the bench and gave the team a huge spark. I think it speaks to the overall depth of our team, and shows we are continuing to get better as a whole, said Coleman."

Cape Fear went into the fourth set down 8-14, and fought back to regain the lead and push the score 22-20. But a few unforced errors let the game slip away. In the fifth set the Sea Devils came out on fire with determination, getting up 6-1 and eventually taking the fifth set 15-8. CFCC saw three double digit hitters in Molly Tatum (16), Madison Mercer (10), and Julie Kemp (11). Taylor Simpson recorded double digit digs with 12, and Megan Thomas finished with a career high 51 assists in the five set match.

In the second match of the day, Cape Fear defeated Brunswick Community College in straight sets.  The Sea Devils stormed out of the gates winning the first match 25-10.  CFCC remained hot throughout, winning 25-11 and 25-10 in the final two sets.  Julie Kemp once again had the hot hand as she led the team with 8 kills.

The weekend victories move Cape Fear to a perfect 8-0 on the season.  The Sea Devils take to the road once again this Wednesday as the battle Pitt Community College in Greenville, NC. Game time is set for 6:00 pm.
