Men's Soccer Starts the Season with a Conference Win

Lancaster, SC - Cape Fear men's soccer opened the 2017-18 season with a 3-1 conference win over USC Lancaster.

Freshman defender DaShaun Brown, a native of Jacksonville, North Carolina, scored two goals to lead the Sea Devils.

Despite the final score, Lancaster took the early lead. Cape Fear fought back, however, scoring three consecutive goals and leaving no doubt as to who was the better team.

"We started off kinda rough, but we got our act together to come back and score three in a row," said head coach C.W. Ponton.

The Sea Devils had numerous chances to score that could've extended the lead even further. While they didn't convert today, Ponton expects they will finish more in the future.

Overall, he was happy with his team's play.

"A solid win, and a good way to start the season, but it could have been better. It was definitely a team victory."

Cape Fear starts the season at 1-0 both overall and in conference play.

Next up, they will face conference opponent Spartanburg Methodist away from home on September 2nd. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
