Wilmington, NC - Cape Fear men's soccer drew Spartanburg Methodist, 0-0 on Saturday.

It was a hard earned point for the Sea Devils, who needed at least a draw to ensure 4th place in the conference.

A number of players stood out. Tyler Nelson contributed by playing multiple positions, while Logan Edwards provided needed tackles and coverage for his teammates in defense. The star of the night was goalkeeper Lucas Gusmao, who made seven saves in the game, providing leadership and communication from in goal to ensure the clean sheet.

The coaching staff had lots of praise for their team afterwards.

"Our overall performance was good," said assistant coach Richard Yakubu. "This game reminds us that on any given day any team can win. We can't take our foot of the pedal. We played well as a team. We still have somethings to sharp up on. Having players with injuries definitely changed [things], but we adjusted and moved forward."

"We came to play," said head coach C.W. Ponton. "I was very pleased with our performance this evening. We needed the draw, but we played for the win. Players stepped up when called upon, and that's what we needed. If we continue to play like this we're going to be hard to beat."

Cape Fear finishes the regular season with an overall record of 8-6-1, and a conference record of 7-6-1. Finishing 4th in Region 10, they will have to play in the conference tournament play-in game, scheduled Tuesday, October 24th. The opponent and gametime are TBA.
