Sea Devils Pick Up Big Road Win

Sumter, SC - Cape Fear men's soccer defeated USC Sumter by a score of 3-2 on Friday.

The first half had plenty of action, with four of the five total goals coming in the before halftime. The Sea Devils took the early lead thanks to DeShaun Brown, who megged the keeper in the 5th minute. He was assisted by Aidan Smith. Cape Fear doubled their lead four minutes later thanks to Christian Bejarano, who score on a one touch finish off a cross by Tyler Keser.

USC Sumter got one back in the 13th minute off an unassisted goal from Alec Ochoa. The Sea Devils responded in the 37th minute, as Brown scored his second goal off an assist from Francisco Tavara to take a 3-1 lead.

Sumter's Connor McAlister made it 3-2 in the 52nd minute, but Cape Fear would hold on to get the win.

Head coach C.W. Ponton liked his team's performance but also acknowledged that fatigue of playing their second game in three days factored in as the game wore on.

"We looked like ourselves in the first half but we also looked tired. I was looking for a lot more from my subs than I usually do since we played just two days ago. I was mostly pleased in the first half. In the second we looked tired, we took on more injuries, and we were playing on our heels for practically the last 20 minutes if not more. It's hard when you are still trying to recover from a game but we need to bounce back and dig deep for Lancaster tomorrow at home."

Cape Fear improves to 5-4-1 on the season and in conference play. They play next on Saturday, October 13th, where they take on USC Lancaster at home at 3:00 p.m.
