Men's Soccer Triumphs Over Wake Tech

Raleigh, NC (September 15th, 2023) - Cape Fear Men's Soccer journeyed to Raleigh, NC to take on conference rivals, the Wake Tech Eagles, for their second conference matchup of the season. Fresh off of their win against the Louisburg Hurricanes, the Sea Devils left their hearts out on the pitch as they finished off the Eagles 3-2 in a well-fought matchup.

Cape Fear started off strong controlling the pace of play and making solid attacking runs, while Wake Tech countered and held their defensive shape well throughout. Emilio Roman put the first point on the board for Cape Fear off of a free kick from Saul Juarez in the 32nd minute.

The Sea Devils answered their first goal with solid defensive pressure and communication across the pitch. After 11 shots on goal, Cape Fear's offensive tenacity resulted in an own-goal by the Eagles to put the Sea Devils up 2-0 at the half.

While Wake Tech capitalized on an offensive opportunity early on in the second half, the Sea Devils answered with a 40-yard run by Trey Clements who played a clutch ball to Emilio Roman for his second goal of the match.

The Eagles managed to place another one in towards the end of the match and continued to fight for every opportunity while the Sea Devils held off their advances. Goalkeeper Alejandro Sepulveda registered 10 saves - fending off 5 corner kicks with support from the back line.

The Sea Devils finished with 19 shots and a solid conference win to finish off the week.

"To be up 2-0 at the half and end 3-2 shows their true character and grit under pressure," says Head Coach Giovani Vlahos. "I couldn't be more proud of a group of players who never stopped giving. It's a true definition of a team that strives to do the Sea Devil family proud."

Cape Fear Men's Soccer will host Patrick & Henry at North Campus Soccer Field next Friday, September 22nd, at 4 PM.
