Men's Soccer Falls in Hard-Fought Overtime

Wilmington, NC (October 19, 2023) - Cape Fear Men's Soccer took the pitch against the Louisburg Hurricanes for the Semifinal round of Region 10 Conference Tournament play. After a battle between both teams that led to overtime play, the Sea Devils fell to the Hurricanes 4-3 at the end of the second overtime period.

The Hurricanes took an early lead 1-0 over the Sea Devils, but Cape Fear held them scoreless for the rest of the first half. Cape Fear's back line pieced together intricate attacking sets that put the Hurricanes on their heels, but a couple of close balls soared past the post and kept Cape Fear off the board.

The Sea Devils worked hard for more attacking opportunities in the second half and managed to tie the game 2-2. Cape Fear held most of the ball possession for the second half as they persevered into overtime.

Cape Fear scored in the first overtime period to take the lead 3-2, but in the second period of overtime, the Hurricanes finished off the match with two heartbreaking goals to clinch their spot in the Region 10 Championship game this weekend.

"It was a hard one to take, but we tip our hat to Louisburg for not giving up tonight," says Head Men's Soccer Coach Giovanni Vlahos. "Kudos to our back line for playing 110 minutes. I love this team's grit and never-say-die attitude. Great things to come in the future for CFCC Men's Soccer."
