Sea Devils Women's Soccer Dominates Home Opener

Wilmington, NC- The Sea Devil Women's Soccer team kicked off their 2013 season this past Saturday with a home game versus Howard Community College (Laurel, MD). The nonconference opener was all Cape Fear, as they picked up the 3-0 victory.

The scoring began with a penalty kick by sophomore Anna Mixon (Emerald Isle, NC/ Croatan H.S.)  after freshman Nicole Tiller (Wilmington, NC/ New Hanover H.S.) was taken down by a Howard defender in the box. This gave the Sea Devils a 1-0 lead at the half. Ten minutes into the second half, the Sea Devils struck again with half volley at the top of the box from freshman Brianna Dimino (Wake Forest, NC/ Rolesville H.S.) off a pass from Nicole Tiller.  Sophomore Alex Duty (Charlotte, NC/Cuthbertson H.S.)  buried the final goal from 20 yards out to put the game away for good.

The Sea Devils out shot Howard 14-7 with Krystan Stenclik (Jacksonville, NC/Jacksonville H.S.) making 4 saves.

"It's always nice to get the first one out of the way," commented Sea Devil head coach Melissa Anderson.  "Now we have to refocus ourselves on our task at hand tomorrow."

Cape Fear will finish the weekend off as they host CCBC Catonsivlle tomorrow at Cape Fear Academy.  Game time is slated for 1:30 pm.
