Sea Devils Claim First Place

Louisburg, NC - Cape Fear Community College's women's soccer team  issued another shutout over Louisburg Tuesday evening, winning its 14th game in 15 outings with a 5-0 triumph.  The win propels the Sea Devils into first place in Region 10, with one game remaining.

Coach Melissa Anderson's club raised its conference mark to 10-1.  "This was a phenomenal performance against a strong team," Anderson noted. "I couldn't be prouder."

Cape Fear stormed out of the gate as Nicole Tiller took a pass from Jamie Bertie to put the Sea Devils on the board less than six minutes into the contest.  Tiller then fed Alex Duty for a 2-0 advantage ten minutes later.

Tiller scored her second goal of the contest after being assisted by Ashlee Bogenn with 8:06 left to play in the first half, putting Cape Fear up, 3-0 at intermission.

Jamie Berti's penalty kick in the second half gave Anderson's team a four-goal advantage before Anna Mixon fed Alex Duty in the 53rd minute for the final margin.

With the offense garnering much of the attention, it is the Sea Devils defense that is slowly making history.  Cape Fear has notched seven straight shutouts and accumulated 12 on the season.  The Sea Devils have given up only three goals thus far this season.

Cape Fear hits the pitch once again this Saturday as they welcome USC Lancaster to the North Campus Soccer Field.  A win would earn the Sea Devils their fourth consecutive Region 10 Regular Season Title and a buy in the first round of the Region 10 Conference Tournament.  The Sea Devils defeated USC Lancaster earlier in the season, 8-0.  Game time is slated for 1:00 pm.
