Sea Devils Draw with Wake Tech Eagles

Wilmington, NC - Wednesday, October 2, 2024

In Short: Cape Fear Women's Soccer tied against the gritty Wake Tech Eagles as the Sea Devils struggled to connect the dots across the pitch.

Highlights:

Cape Fear Community College faced a tough challenge in their 1-1 draw against Wake Tech, who came out with high intensity from the opening whistle. The Sea Devils struggled to find their rhythm early, as miscommunications and disconnected passes hampered their ability to build offensive momentum. Despite Wake Tech's pressure, the score remained 0-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Wake Tech continued their aggressive play, but Cape Fear managed to break the deadlock when Kenliana Dixon headed in a crucial goal to give the Sea Devils a 1-0 lead. However, Wake Tech never let off the pressure and tied the game with just 10 minutes remaining, capitalizing on a rebound tap-in after an initial save by Cape Fear goalkeeper Laurel Collins.

Collins finished the game with a solid 11 saves, but the Sea Devils were unable to find a late winner as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Final Thoughts: "We struggled with the basics today," says Head Coach C.W. Ponton. "We lacked synergy today, but we will get locked in as we prepare for our next matchup."
