Highlights: In an intense matchup against Wake Tech, Cape Fear Women's Soccer delivered a clutch 3-1 win - showcasing their ability to control the tempo and dictate the flow of play from start to finish. Despite a brief setback with an early goal from Wake Tech, Cape Fear's resilience and tactical superiority ensured a well-deserved victory.
The match began with Cape Fear asserting dominance in possession, pressing Wake Tech into their own half. However, against the run of play, Wake Tech managed to strike first with a long-distance effort in the 23rd minute, taking a 1-0 lead. Undeterred, Cape Fear responded just four minutes later. A beautiful through ball from Kenliana Dixon found Jo Morales in stride, who calmly finished past the keeper to level the score at 1-1 in the 27th minute. From there, the Sea Devils continued to press, maintaining control and utilizing the full width of the field to stretch Wake Tech's defense.
The second half saw a brief resurgence from Wake Tech, but Cape Fear's defense, led by Avery Reichert, Cierra Burnett, and Teagan Rosales, shut down their chances. Behind them, goalkeeper Laurel Collins was rock-solid, making 9 critical saves to keep Wake Tech at bay.
In the 78th minute, Avery Reichert delivered a pinpoint corner kick, which Brynli Baker met with a perfectly-timed volley to give Cape Fear the 2-1 lead. Just minutes later, Baker was instrumental again, combining with Dixon, who sidestepped the Wake Tech goalkeeper and tapped in the third goal to seal the 3-1 victory.
With this win, Cape Fear climbs to the top of the Region 10 standings, demonstrating their strength and cohesion as a unit. The attacking prowess of Brynli Baker (1 goal, 1 assist), Kenliana Dixon (1 goal, 1 assist), and Jo Morales (1 goal), combined with the defensive solidity of Reichert, Burnett, and Rosales, proved too much for the Eagles to handle.
Final Thoughts: "So pleased with today's performance," says Head Coach C.W. Ponton. "We needed to step up today for the win and we did just that. Very proud of our hard work as a team."
