Sea Devil Men's Soccer Opens 2013 Season

Wilmington N.C. - The Cape Fear Community College Men's Soccer team opened their 2013 campaign, with a win and a loss this past weekend at the CFCC North Campus Soccer Field. On Saturday, the Sea Devils lost to Harford (Md.) Community College, 2-1 in double over-time. Sergio Esparrago scored in the 70th minute off an assist from Emmett Lunceford to put CFCC up 1-0. The lead did not last long, as Harford equalized less than a minute later with a goal by Nat Hand. The two teams battled for the reminder of regulation and through the first ten minute over-time period. Two minutes into the second overtime, Ethan Mulnix scored for Harford ending the game. Freshman Goalkeeper Dakota Moore had six saves in goal for the Sea Devils.

The Sea Devils picked up their first win of the season on Sunday, with a 1-0 win over CCBC Catonsville (Md.). Sophomore Midfielder Derek Yates connected off a Zachary Melvin corner kick in the 15th minute as the Sea Devils never looked back. Cape Fear controlled most of the game, missing several other scoring opportunities, but held on to get their first notch in the win column. Dakota Moore recorded 5 saves in his and the Sea Devils first shutout of the season. The Sea Devils return to the field on Wednesday, September 4th at 5pm, as they play host to Region Ten foe, Wake Tech.
