Sea Devils Soccer Push Streak to 4

Wilmington, NC - The Cape Fear Community College Men's Soccer team opened up their 2013 Region Ten Conference schedule with a 2-1 win over Wake Tech this past week.  Freshman defender David Segura scored an unassisted goal in the 30th minute, to put the Sea Devils in the lead.  In the 70th minute, sophomore forward Joel Reyes finished a pass from Myles Strickland to give CFCC a 2-0 lead.  Wake Tech got within one goal in the 73rd minute, when Jose Garcia Granados tallied for the Eagles.   The Cape Fear defense stiffened in the final 15 minutes of the contest to preserve the victory, and notch their first conference win of the season.

The Sea Devils then traveled to Martinsville, Virginia this past weekend to participate in the Patrick Henry CC Soccer Classic.  In the first game, Cape Fear defeated Hagerstown CC (Md.) 3-2 in double over-time.  David Segura opened the scoring for CFCC in the 33rd minute off an assist by mid-fielder Derek Yates.  Two minutes after the half-time break, freshman Nathan Pace scored off an assist from Zack Melvin to put the Sea Devils up 2-0.  Hagerstown fought back and scored in the 53rd minute and on a penalty kick in the70th minute, to bring the game level.  In the 108th minute, Emmett Lunceford found the back of the net with the help of Segura, winning the game for Cape Fear.  Dakota Moore recorded 5 saves in goal for the Sea Devils. 

The Sea Devils finished out the weekend with a convincing 10-2 win over Cecil College (Md.).   Emmett Lunceford opened all scoring, when his corner kick went directly into the goal in the 8th minute.   Cecil evened the score, less than two minutes later off a free kick just outside the penalty area.  Cape Fear then rattled off four goals in the next 20 minutes.  Sergio Esparrago netted goals in the 13th and 20th minutes, off assists from Derek Yates and Victor Flores.  Nathan Pace added another in the 29th minute, when he finished a pass from Zach Melvin.  Melvin then got a goal of his own, unassisted in the 30th minute.  Cecil caught the Sea Devils by surprise in the 35th minute making the score 5-2.  CFCC added another goal just before half,   when Kevin Grasso used a pass from James Scheer to bring the score to 6-2.  CFCC added four more goals in the second half to complete the scoring.  Forward Ed Lytle scored twice, once in the 52nd minute off another assist from Scheer and an unassisted goal in the 64th minute.  Esparrago completed his "Hat Trick" with a third goal from an assist from Flores in the 75th minute.  Flores assisted again in the 83rd minute for the tenth and final goal for CFCC, scored by Zach Melvin.  Goalkeeper Austin McCarty registered the win for Cape Fear. 

The win was the team's fourth in a row, improving their over-all record to 4-1-0 (1-0-0 Region 10).  They travel to Lancaster, SC this Wednesday for a tilt with USC Lancaster.  Game time for this conference battle is set for 5:00 pm.
