Lady Sea Devils Remain Undefeated in Conference Play

Wilmington, NC– CFCC's Women's Basketball Team returned from their Holiday break to host Lenoir Community College in a conference match-up.  The end result moved the Lady Sea Devils to 3-0 in conference play and undefeated on their home court in their inaugural season.

During the first half, only a few points separated the two teams.  The Lady Sea Devils went into the locker room with a mere one-point lead at halftime.  Pleased with her team's tenacity and hustle in the first half, Coach Lori Drake's advice to her team was to continue battling with the same intensity in the second half.  They did just that.

Missing a few athletes due to injury and travel, the Sea Devils stepped up and endured 40 minutes of basketball impressively.  Shooting 76% from the charity stripe and pulling down close to 40 rebounds contributed to the Sea Devil win. "We stuck it out through thick and thin during the game and our ladies showed character when it counted," commented Coach Drake.

Jacksonville native, Alexis Redd had a huge night with 22 points.  Fifteen of her 22 points came from behind the 3-pt line where she shot a notable 50%.  "Alexis Redd stepped up for the team, not only by just putting up 22 points, but by dishing out assists and rebounding very well," said Coach Drake. Jordan Hill's efforts produced 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks for her team, while point guard Porsha Buchanan dished out 8 assists, snagged 4 of the team's 8 steals, and dumped in 10 points of her own.  Coach Drake added, "Jordan Hill was big time from the free throw line, shooting 9 for 10 from the stripe."

CFCC's ladies will be on the road just a few miles from home on Saturday at 5 p.m. for a battle with conference rivals, Brunswick Community College, in Bolivia, NC.
