Sea Devils Storm Hurricanes

Wilmington, NC – The frigid air outside couldn't keep the Lady Sea Devils from heating up the Schwartz Center Tuesday night.  Cape Fear used a swarming zone defense and high powered offense to tackle the #1 team in the country.  "We weren't worried about the rankings," said an elevated Lori Drake.  "We knew we had to play our game and the rest would take care of itself."

CFCC stormed out of the gates opening up a 15 point lead before taking a 39-27 point advantage into the break.  In the second half Louisburg would find their rhythm behind Gena Penick as they roared back, creating a one possession game.  However, the Sea Devils would strike last as they showed great poise and iced the game from the charity strip.

Cape Fear was paced by Eboni Gilliam's 22 points and eight rebounds.  Kristina Rumplasch notched another double-double on the young season, as the freshman poured in 16 points and snatched 10 rebounds.  Porsha Buchanan and Shanta Williams rounded out the double digit scoring as both dumped in 10 points apiece.  The Lady Sea Devils were able to force Louisburg into 23 turnovers, while only committing 12 of their own.  "We set a team goal of staying under 12 turnovers for the game and trying to force Louisburg into over 20.  We battled hard tonight and made that happen, and in return I feel like that was the deciding factor in tonight's game," commented Drake.

The win bolsters Cape Fear's record to 6-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.  The Sea Devils are back in action this weekend as they welcome Tidewater CC and Guilford Tech CC to Schwartz Center.  Game times are set for 2:00 pm Saturday and 1:00 pm Sunday.
