Cape Fear, Brunswick community colleges to play in Holiday Hoops Classic

Supply, NC - There will be 18 junior college basketball games Dec. 19-22 as part of Brunswick Community College's annual holiday tournament on the BCC campus in Supply.

Cape Fear Community College and BCC's men's and women's teams will play three games over three days before getting into the heart of their conference schedule in 2014.

"We have another great field of women's and men's teams for this year's event," said BCC men's coach Walter Shaw. "With teams from Alabama, South Carolina, Maryland, Virginia and throughout North Carolina, we have definitely put together what should be an exciting tournament. We hope that everyone will come out as we bring high quality junior college basketball to Brunswick Community College for the holidays."

At 8-4, the Dolphins have games against Harford Community College in Maryland, Wallace State Community College (Ala.), and a Sunday night contest against Caldwell Community College.

The 5-7 CFCC Sea Devils get back into action after more than a week off on Thursday at 6 p.m. against Wallace, with Caldwell and Harford scheduled for over the weekend.

"We have continued to show improvement throughout the young season," said CFCC Head Coach Ryan Mantlo. "We head into another tough weekend of games, but I am confident that if we continue to show this improvement the wins will come.

"Wallace State is very good and will be a great challenge for us. If we can slow down their transition break, I think we will put ourselves in great position to start the tournament off with a victory."

On the women's side, Cape Fear (8-0) kicks off the event with a 10 a.m. tip-off Friday against Harford, followed by a game at noon on Saturday. The Lady Sea Devils are ranked at No. 8 in this week's NJCAA Top-20 poll. The BCC Lady Dolphins entertain Baltimore County (Md.) Friday at noon, and play during the afternoon on Saturday and Sunday.

"This week has all about staying focused and staying hungry to play," said CFCC Head Coach Lori Drake. "I don't want our ladies to check out for Christmas break until after our battle on Saturday. We are preparing for a few tough games and we haven't played a game since the win against Guilford Tech, so I know our ladies are ready to play again."

A pass for all 18 games of the tournament costs $15, while day passes for six games cost 8$.
