Cape Fear Finishes Sophomore Day Strong

Wilmington, NC (September 20, 2023) - Cape Fear Women's Soccer celebrated their 13 Sophomores alongside their families and friends for their matchup against the Richard Bland Statesmen. After showing gratitude to the CFCC Sophomore class, the Sea Devils managed to maintain their winning record - finishing the match with a record of 5-0-1.

The Sea Devils started off disconnected and slow to the jump, letting the RBC goalkeeper earn saves on some misplaced shots. But after picking each other up and keeping the energy high, Cape Fear managed to gain momentum and secure their lead early. The first goal came in the first 6 minutes with a cross from Peri Farrar to Taylor Simco.

Halie Blizzard was an impact player for the Sea Devils with 2 goals and strong ball movement across the midfield. The selfless ball movement across the pitch ensured that all 7 goals were scored by 6 different individuals for the Sea Devils to secure a true team win. While the Statesmen snuck one goal in during the second half, Cape Fear maintained the majority of possession throughout the match.

The remainder of the goals for the Sea Devils were earned by Johanna Morales, Sarah SmithBrynli Baker, and Justine Moesch.

"Very pleased with our performance and how supportive our Freshman, Sophomore families, and fans were today of our Sophomore class," says Head Coach C.W. Ponton. "Everyone received playing time today and this was a well-rounded team win. Happy that we could utilize this game as a great sendoff for the Sophomore class."

Up next, Cape Fear will take on Meredith College in Raleigh, NC at 2 PM on Saturday, September 23rd.
