Sea Devils Remain On Top

Louisburg, NC (October 4th, 2023) - Cape Fear Women's Soccer continued their road stint as they traveled to Louisburg, NC to take on the Hurricanes - a conference opponent that the Sea Devils frequently face in Region 10 post-season play. Cape Fear managed to finish the match with a 3-1 win: holding their place at the top of the conference with a 5-0 conference record.

The Sea Devils had a rocky start to the match as they struggled to connect and communicate effectively, which resulted in an early goal by the Hurricanes in the first 4 minutes. This play shocked the Sea Devils back into focus as they began to find their rhythm and regain control over the match. After both teams traded possession of the ball evenly for a couple of plays, Kailie Ross scored the first goal for the Sea Devils off of a penalty kick.

Peri Farrar nailed a second goal in from far out on the pitch to establish a lead for Cape Fear in the 34th minute. From then on, the Hurricanes' defensive presence became harder to challenge as the Sea Devils attempted to work the ball down the field on the attack. But with some creative ball movement from Halie Blizzard, Farrar was given another opportunity and put away her second goal of the match in the second half.

Overall, the Sea Devils finished the match strong and solidified another conference win as they have their sights set on the Region 10 Tournament coming in a few short weeks.

"Very pleased with the perseverance and quality that our players off the bench brought us today," says Head Coach C.W. Ponton. "Multiple girls stepped up today and it just goes to show what it takes, on and off the field, to continue to be successful in conference games."
