Volleyball Celebrates Sophomore Night with Win

Wilmington, NC - The Cape Fear women's volleyball team won their 8th straight match, defeating USC Salkehatchie 3-1 on sophomore night.

Sophomore night started by recognizing the 5 sophomores Maryellie Carpenter, Neryssa Donnell, Taylor Long, Callie Weaver and Jensen Worthington.

The Sea Devils took the first two sets with both scores at 25-19, but USC Salkehatchie took CFCC point for point in the third set to win 28-26.  The fourth set also went point for point with Cape Fear finally pulling though to win 25-23 taking the match.

Sophomore Jensen Worthington finished with 11 digs and 2 aces, while sophomore Callie Weaver led the team with 15 digs. 

Coach Heather Emborsky said, "we had a slow start to the game but really had to pick up the pace to compete with Salk tonight. They didn't let up so we had to work hard and earn every point. I'm really happy with the growth in seeing in the team, they continue to work hard to best!"

Today's win moves Cape Fear to 14-3 on the season, and 9-1 in conference play.

They next match is scheduled for Saturday, October 19th, where they will take on Davidson County Community College at 12:00 p.m, on the road in Thomasville, NC.
