Lakeside, FL - Friday, August 23-Saturday, August 24
Game 2 - Cape Fear vs St. Johns River State
Highlights: The Cape Fear Volleyball team delivered a strong opening set but faced challenges in the second, as they continue to refine their lineup and solidify their identity as a team. Despite the offensive lull in the second set, the Sea Devils upped their blocking game, which could become a major asset as the season progresses. Mackenzie Davis was the offensive leader, recording 12 kills and setting the pace for her teammates. The defensive effort was anchored by Quinn Meiser, who tallied an impressive 20 digs, showcasing her reliability in the backcourt. The team's defensive specialists and liberos—Addy Sechrist, Kenzie Moyer, and Quinn Meiser—held a united front against St. Johns River State.
Game 3 - Cape Fear vs Indian River State
Highlights: Indian River State was the Sea Devils' toughest defensive challenge of the season thus far, facing off against a talented blocking squad. Despite the setback, the match provided valuable experience as Cape Fear continues to grow and develop in this beginning part of the season. The powerful blocking from the opposition disrupted the Sea Devils' rhythm, leading to struggles in both serve receive and offensive execution. Emma Anderson and Addi Olson led the attack during this match, each recording 5 kills, while Olson added 4 blocks to her stat line. Though the offense had difficulty finding its footing, the match served as an important learning opportunity for the team.
Game 4 - Cape Fear vs Lake-Sumter State
Highlights: CFCC faced a gritty and relentless LSSC squad in a 5-set thriller where the Sea Devils delivered a strong overall performance. Brooke Bombatepe was a standout, tallying 42 assists, 4 kills, and 12 digs, as she kept the team competitive throughout the match. The Sea Devils' serve and pass game was on point for much of the contest, though they hit a rough patch in the 3rd and 5th sets, ultimately falling short in the final moments. With a young roster and several new faces, this early-season five-set battle provided invaluable experience. The team is embracing these challenges and is eager to see how they can grow and come together as the season progresses.
Final Thoughts: "We love doing tournaments like this to start the season," says Head Coach Colby Rosser. "It's great to be challenged early on and have your weaknesses exposed so that we know what needs to happen back in practice."
