In Short: Cape Fear finally faces off with Region 10 Conference opponent Southwest Virginia and continues their streak of clean 3-0 sweeps in conference play.
Highlights: After experiencing match delays in the passing weeks due to adverse weather conditions, Cape Fear Volleyball secured a solid win against Southwest Virginia, taking the match in straight sets (3-0) thanks to a balanced offensive attack and steady defensive play. Despite facing some resistance and mild disconnect in their communication, Cape Fear managed to maintain their composure and control the match.
The first set saw Cape Fear come out strong, playing a clean and efficient game to take an early lead. Emma Schwarting set the tone with a couple of quick kills, helping Cape Fear establish dominance. However, Southwest VA fought back, pushing the set to a tense conclusion. Cape Fear managed to fend off the comeback and take the set.
Set two was much more tightly contested, with both teams trading points in a back-and-forth battle. Cape Fear's serving game proved crucial in keeping Southwest VA out of system, allowing them to stay in the match and eventually close out the set.
By the third set, Cape Fear had found their rhythm and settled into their play. The offense ran smoothly thanks to strong contributions from multiple players. Addilyn Olson, Emma Anderson, Nevaeh Ortiz, and Mackenzie Davis each recorded 6 kills, while setters Brooke Bombatepe and Kori Jennings orchestrated a well-balanced attack. Bombatepe finished with 20 assists and Jennings added 13 assists along with 4 aces, keeping Southwest VA off balance. Quinn Meiser anchored the backline with 18 digs, while Bombatepe and Davis chipped in with 12 and 9 digs respectively.
"While we wish we started the match as strong as we finished, I'm proud of how we settled down and maintained composure to run a well-balanced offense," says Head Coach Colby Rosser.
