Sea Devils Split Weekend Trip

Sea Devils Split Weekend Trip

La Plata, MD - After dropping the front end of a weekend doubleheader 4-0 against Eastern Florida, the Cape Fear Community College women's soccer team bounced back with a 1-0 win over College of Southern Maryland on Sunday.

"We needed to play games like this to improve and measure where we are in relation to some of the nation's best," said CFCC Coach Melissa Anderson. "Eastern Florida is a great team and we can only get better from this experience."

Saturday's setback ended a five-game unbeaten streak to start the season for the Lady Sea Devils, but Katie Sterling put Cape Fear in the win column to close out games in as many days off an assist by Nikki Tiller to wrap up the trip to La Plata, Maryland.

"It was a great result for the entire team for multiple reasons," said Anderson. "To come back from the defeat yesterday and execute against the team that knocked us out of districts last year is a true testament to our mental strength.

"We'll take a lot from the weekend and confidence knowing we can compete and what it needs to take to move through the playoffs."

Cape Fear stands at 5-1-1 overall and 2-0-1 in conference. The Sea Devils return to the pitch Wednesday, Oct. 1 at Wake Tech.
